I've heard that the filters were masked off and only got a little (if any) engine color on the base of it.
What year car are you working on? 1972 and up got a red, white, and blue from the factory. Prior to that was the green textured oil filters.

A bit of bondo or similar and some artistry and you can have the "M" too
I cut the "M" out of a magnetic sticker that way I can peal it off then reinstall it on the next tall napa gold filter before I paint it.. I made up a stencil for the script.. I even add the texture every once in a while but I change each filter every year so sometimes I get lazy...

Box that contained 12 green Mopar filters, this batch being dated 2-68.
Is there any danger running a filter that old?I think I'd be afraid the paper filter element might come apart.

Do what I did, go to a local sign shop, and show a picture and have them make a decal like the one above, then find a close shade of green paint, and paint you filter. Some of the factory filters had a raised M on the top of the filter. Its hard to tell way down in the engine bay if it's real or not.
