Brian do you feel the smaller bore of the 383 hurts performance significantly over lets say a 400 or 440 block, if all things were the same ( stroke, heads, intake, cam specs) the only differnce being the larger bore of the b440 and 400?. I have always wonderd why more people don't build Stroker 383"s. Could you tel us why people seem to forget about the 383 when it comes to building big inch strokers and racing engines. What are the downfalls of it? thanks in advance. If I don't go Stroker smallblock ive always thought about building a big inch 383 but most people I talk to say forget it and go straight to the 400 or 440. Thanks in advance good sir!
i'm not brian, but the 400,has thicker main bearing webbing,& the smaller bore of the 383 shrouds the valves more than 400,440

That's cool! Being someone that needs a low deck engine for his Bee, a build similar to this seems very tempting. Don't know if I would stick with a 383. But I would like to.

I love the little 383's. You can pickup complete 383 cores for $50 all over. I just dropped off some stealth heads, .567 roller cam and 1.6 MP rockers for my new 383 to the engine builder this morning.
Mine is very similar except I stayed with a stock stroke, 12 to 1 compression, M1 Single Plane and solid roller cam. The builder is estimating it will make over 500-550 HP but I'm skeptical.
We'll see soon enough.
Congrats on another successful build.
With some good headwork I would say over 500 and without just under.
