I have a few questions regarding a 904 in my 71 340 roadrunner. my car originally had a 727, but for a few factors, Im running a 904 instead. im pretty sure the tail shaft lengths are different between 727 and 904. would I be able to use my original drive shaft? or does it have to be lengthened? also, the tranny I got came out of a A body, IIRC, it doesn't matter like it does for 4 speeds as far as overall length goes? thanks -kevin

As far as I know all 904s are the same length..Also I'm pretty sure the driveshaft has to be lengthened.

All 904 lengths are the same. If you're swapping a 904 in place of a 727, the 904 is shorter so the 727 driveshaft will be too short. AFAIK you cant lengthen the driveshaft - the tube has to be replaced. No change needed for the crossmember though.

Both 8&1/4's? I would mock it up with the suspension loaded & see what you do have for end play. Want 3/4"-1"

Thank you very much for looking that up for me! would .66" really matter? Im no driveshaft expert lol
You need to make sure that you have at least 3/4" to 1" of travel room. Do this with the car resting on the suspension.
