I've always just used the valley pan itself with a little RTV at the corners. Been awhile. I see kits with the 4 - .030 facing pieces. Any advantage either way?

the only time i would use the papers is if the manifold has been machined for them.

I just use the pan itself with with sealer on the ends and corners
