that red duster you seen at fontana with the 340 runs oliver rods. nice pieces, but some will say they dont like them. i had heard that the grain direction on the caps run the wrong way. but i can't back that speculation up. i've learned that you should save your lunch money and buy the ones you can't afford. you'll be money ahead.

Oliver builds nice rods. Callies would be a good place to look for a higher end crankshaft.

That stuff is junk...do yourself a favor and get some Cat rods and a custom twisted forged rpm crank.

Callies stuff is great until the snout decides to break off and launch a balancer through the hood. Well at least the alternator saved it from going through hood.

Did you figure out why it broke? Bad balancer, wrong balancer?

Yes, bad steel forging of foreign materials. BTW, very common problem. Balance job was good, no sign of detonation on main bearings or rod bearings, lower belt crank pulley had enough chamfer to seat against front counterweight.

I had problems with one rod cap on the only set of Oliver steel billet rods that I bougt and used, also had problems the ARP L19 rod bolts they sent with them The one rod problem was that the bearing retaining tang in the rod was not machine correctly for the rod bearing tab to fit into properly, I was very lucky to catch it Oliver paid for the overnight Fed Ex and corrected it at thier expence but at $150.00 each I expect them to be perfect to start with The rod bolt problem was that they mixed up the bolts from two different batches and there was 25 lbs difference in torque to get them to stretch the same
Crower cranks are outstanding according to everyone I know(all three racers ) that have used them, they are on the high end of the market, just like Bryant, LA Billet and the other good company in CO, Winberg Which type crank are you wanting to use, forged or billet? Either way there is usually a two to twelve week waiting period from time of the order to delivery

A friend's Parabolic Billet rods went 8000+ rpm on a 3.75" stroke crank in my friend's stroker sbc for a couple of years before he built a bigger motor. They looked like jewels out of the box.

I researched most of the higher end rods when putting my last build plan together, Lentz, Oliver, Manly, Carillo, etc. Frankly they are all high end rods with great reputations, I can't say I heard of any real inherent problems with any of them. I doubt you would go wrong choosing any one of the lot but I ended up going with a custom Scat Lightweight 4.125 crank and Carillo rods (426 SB build). Turned out very nice, the rods were a very nice piece.

I have Oliver billet steel rods in my hemi...VERY nice. They were perfect out of the box.

I've never heard anything bad about Oliver or Crower parts.

Username 40Ford has experience with the high end rods in circle track situations, maybe PM him or look up old posts by him.

I have heard the same thing from few engine builders.

You won't find a better rod than Oliver. For a crankshaft I went Bryant. I didn't want anything bad to happen to my Hemi.
