i can't say for sure, but that part number seems to be telling the story. Maybe the person that said that, meant it will work on a 360.

40 prefix tells you that is a very late 70's part number at the earliest, so if you are thinking it's a 340 manifold because of the last 3 digits don't , that's only on engine blocks ...

Do you have a set of intake gaskets ? If so throw one on there , 318 ports will be smaller than 360 ports otherwise measure the ports and post it up , someone should be able to tell you what it is .
Is it a 2bbl manifold or 4bbl ?
