I'm sure this question has been asked before. How much power can a Doug Nash 4 + 1 pro/slick shifted trans handle? Is it capable of handling 700-800 ft.lbs. of torque at the flywheel?

I would say no, but there are a lot of variables. Weight of the car is a big factor. Some of the DN have a center support bearing which makes them better, you can also have them sent off to have the shafts handcuffed together. The biggest problem that I found with the DN is that under a lot of power the counter shaft seperates and then you have gears breaking.
A good clutch will help the trans live.

Car will weigh around 2800lbs. I would like a bullet-proof trans, what would be my best bet behind a power-adder small block with a budget of $3500?

I don't know how much power they will take but I have broke mine a couple of times, the last time I shifted into 2nd while the wheels were still up from the launch, took out 2nd gear, bent the output shaft, split the case and oiled the track. Bought another , cheaper than the repair. And NO parts are for sale.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I got a richmond 5 sp FwIW and its rated 450lbs, which sounds very conservative IMO.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
