Ok

Asked one time to many im sure....

Ok she has driven the clutch out of the car ..

We have a stock or a OE Borg in there and is out ...

Center force is not making the DF for a 18splin any more ...

So what is every one running now ????

Mind you it a 70 440+6 car so I'm looking for better than stock but I not looking for a race race set up and something that not going to bust my knee as it get driven alot

Thanks
David

Here is a McLeod package that is very similar to the Centerforce dual friction package:

Just installed a centerforce dual friction clutch in My 69 Bee...440(30 over) 6 pack...Completely satisfied..also installed the same setup in a 498 stroker and it was excellent. I'm sure there are others out there but just passing along My experience. They claim this clutch was good for up to 600 hp. Pedal pressure is mild.

Sachs offers a 10 1/2" set up as well, are you sure it's not a "scallop" set-up 10.750 IIRC....

The one recommended by Brewer would be a lot more similar to a Centerforce dual friction if that was what you were wanting. The diaphram PP is a lot easier on the leg than a B&B style and the 500 series disc is similar to centerforces DF.

I use the 500 series disc that has organic on one side and ceramic on the other side and a 360951 Borg&beck/Long pressure plate. This is a 10.95 Unit that will fit on your 10.5 flywheel and accept the 11" disc. For your 18 spline trany you would need a 260551 disc. This setup has been my favorite for many years. I think it is a nice compromise. It requires less leg effort than a B&B and shifts better at high rpm. The fingers are counterweighted to add pressure due to centrifugal force and weight can be added to them if needed. It is however somewhat pricier than the diaphram kit that Brewer is selling and I am sure either one would work fine for you.

http://www.mcleodracing.com/products/500+Series+Disc.mcl

http://www.mcleodracing.com/products/Borg+%26+Beck+Long+Pressure+Plates.mcl

By the way the 360153 pressure plate you mentioned is also a 10.95 that fits on a 10.5 flywheel and you can use a 260151 11" organic/organic disc or a 260551 11" organic/ceramic disc with it. Mcleods 11" discs are slightly undersized so that they work with both 10.95 and 11" pressure plates.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

It should be a scalloped 10.95" unit on a 130 tooth flywheel.

That looks like a Borg and Beck type clutch to me. I would call Bob Mazzolini Racing and ask him about clutches. I got mine from him.

This is the clutch I fitted about two years ago. Car is driven daily and I have at least 100 launches on it at the local drag strip. I only adjusted it once, a few hundred miles after it was fitted.

Mick70RR the clutch your using is for a 143 tooth flywheel. His is probably a stock 130 tooth.
You want this http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MC1018

From the first post I assumed it was an 18 spline.

There's a lot of good info posted here.

First of all you have a big motor and need all the clutch you can get so use the 10.95" setup that bolts onto your 10.5" flywheel. Dollars to doughnuts that's what you have now.

Second if you want to minimize your pedal pressure the diaphragm clutch is the way to go. It'll cut your pedal pressure way down for the same clamping force. Your Centerforce idea was on the money, and you should be able to get a CF pressure plate because it has many applications.

Just buy the set in this link which I copied from up the thread:
http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MCDP1018 Be sure to get the throwout bearing to go with it and to pack the TO bearing with grease unless it is "lifetime lubed".

Back in the day my brother and I put a 3500# clutch in his 67 GTO and we were so green we put the throwout bearing in dry. The clutch was a bear to disengage, but no worries because in about 300 miles the throwout bearing had worn the clutch fingers about off. So he kept the disk and went with a lighter plate and that time we greased the bearing and it lived. Maybe all throwout bearings are sealed now, but we had to learn the hard way.

Good luck and ask questions if you don't know the answer.

R.
