Calm down small block guys we still like younz. Now back to the original poster. It doesn't take a lot of work to build a 440 to run 10.90's in a 3000# car. 30 years ago before we had all the go fast products that are available now. I used this combo to run 9.80 in a 74 duster that weighted 2900# with me in the seat. 2900# total weight .030 over 440 with TRW forged dome pistons Stock rods (direct conection bolts, shot peened, polished beems) stock forged crank 750 comp cams roller cam Weiand tunnelram with two 750 holley carbs (76 jets summer-78 jets fall) 4:56 rear gear 727 trans 14-31-15 goodyears superstock springs (001-002)
Pretty simple build but with the parts available now its crazy not to use a set of h-beem rods and an after market crank. Or you could go with a 4.150 crank and really blow those small blocks away.
or u could go with a 340 block 40 over,10.5 compression,4" crank,750 hp carb,255/255 @50 588 lift FLAT TAPPET bullit cam..in a 3200lb dart sport with 3500 stall conv,and do 10.80's and street drive to the beach
So, does`your car go 10.80`s or is that a different car?

10.80's with a 416 CI. Heck the kids (whiskyrunner)duster weights 3300# went 10.83 two weeks ago. .030 over 360 with a stock crank and thru the exhaust. Same engine ran 10.20's last year at 2500# on 93 octane. With a 520 lift solid cam.
SWEET....nice running car for sure.

I thought about it but I already have the 440 and the fenderwell exit headers.
At least with a 440 all you need is a cam. 360 combos with stock crank and heads are not nearly as promising, not saying impossible, but you need to be a household name to build one. then again pushing around a 2800 lb car +driver, isn't really pushing any envelopes either.

This motor is no longer with us, once the crank broke on the rod journals it was all over but it had a lot of runs on it. It was a .055" over stoke stroke 440 with Venolia domed pistons, BME aluminum rods, .640 solid roller, EZ-1 cnc ported Indy heads, Indy intake, QF 950 on 110 octane. TTI 2" headers, 727, 3360lbs on the footbrake would run 9.70's in decent air and 9.80's the rest of the time.

Is this about 440 builds or smallblock vs bigblock ? Ron
The Small block guys always have to throw in their and ruin everyones fun. Read the thread title and move on, just like I do when I see a small block under the hood of a Mopar.
[/quote Kinda like when I see a big block at the track that slow I laugh and walk on by!!
for every slow BB mopar there's 10 SB. Lets see a mighty 340 (stock stroke heck I'll even give you 418) w/ iron heads run 10's in a 3600-4000 b-body. For every one SB I'll show you 10 BB. Oh wait NOOOBODY would run a 340 base motor in a B-body
