Mike, I am not sure but I do believe the splines are different from a gasser A518 to one for a diesel.

While you have the engine out most folks who are knowledgeable with these 1st gen engines would tell you to fix the KDP (Killer Dowel Pin) especially now because you have easy access.

I would also check out DTR along with a couple other diesel sites, they have forums dedicated to conversions and they contain a lot of info.
