Ok, is like a groove in the middle of the cam journals?

I cut a groove in each cam journal... I used a .040 thick
cut off wheel... slip it in and give it a few turns

It's called a "cutter cam" and many machine shops have been doing it this way for years. Is it the "absolute" right way to do it, not really, but the "right" way generally gets to be expensive and not really neded in 90% of applications.

A quality machine shop will do this automatically as part of the cam bearing install proceedure.
