I think typically the reason they need to be honed is they are not installed properly, also I think they scrape the bearings not the bores. I had that problem one time and was told by several people to just scrape the bearings, I wasn't gonna do it so I pulled all the bearings back out, ran a wire brush on a drill through all the bores so they were super cleanand was VERY carefull to get them all in there straight and I could twirl the cam with two fingers. I do know of at least one motor where they just scraped the bearings to get clearance and the guy has been driving it daily for 4 years with no issue
