After half-heartedly attempting to bend the headers to fit around the starter, I decided to try and do it correctly. One piece of 90 degree bend, 2 inch conduit from Lowes and several hours later I am done. The headers now clear nicely around a regular full-size starter and still fit in the car. Are they "perfect"?. No, but they will be fine.
I do know one thing though. I will not be getting into the custom header business anytime soon.
