Okay got the attachment thing figured out. The first was the shim I fabbed. I suppose you could put it between the gear and the slinger but I figured it would be more stable in back. Also I probably should have used the passenger side idler button as a means of tolerancing the idler gear and the timing cover but there isn't really a way to tell if you have adequate clearance unless you use the gasket thickness as your means of measuring. You'd have to reduce the diameter of the idler button in order to clear the slinger... Mines flush with the front link bar that connects the two idler gears and I filed down the face of the aluminum shim just enough to feel freeplay on the slinger when I installed the cover and stuck my finger into the hole for the dampener. Pretty hokey eh? Well the timing gear set only cost like $59 so what do you expect!
