First question, why was the trans rebuilt the first time?
Second, being a race trans, I assume it’s a manual shift valve body. If so, there is nothing in the valve body that will keep the rear clutch on in all gears. Unless the manual valve is stuck in the forward position.

As for the converter - a dirty converter or one that failed usually puts trash through the pump.
