As I understand it, technically it went to the valve cover breather, so both your fuel tank and carb were vented through the crankcase, which should be under negative pressure due to PCV. I figure keeping fuel out of the crankcase is a good thing, especially on cars that don't get driven much.


The bowl vent went to the canister and back to the tank. Not to the valve cover breather. There also was the small line off the breather that allowed any excess vapors in the air cleaner or crankcase to also be purged to the tank. When running the PCV would act as a vacuum cleaner and allow vapors to be burned in the combustion chamber.
