Not sure how it works "long-distance", but there was a machinist in my area who decided he preferred operating liquor bottles to his shop equipment. He had close to a grand worth of my parts and ignored all phone calls, notes on his shop and house doors... so I filed a theft report with the city PD. Within hours he called me and asked if I'd like to pick up my stuff.
