My intention was not to start such a heated debate as to "yes do it","no don't do it" (because I have used both methods),it was to see if I'm the only one who does.Well it turns out I'm not,but that doesnt mean installing the filter dry is incorrect either(we did it all the time at a dealership I once worked at).It all boils down to whatever works for you.Now we can move on to more important things such as ,D.
