Both... the oil pan is a little cut and weld... I
am right at 600hp (SB) and I use the static pick up

is there a rule of thumb for static pick ups and how much hp they can support? when I built the engine I did not drill it for 1/2", so it is stock. what oil system would support 600 hp and at what point should a swinging pick up be used along with higher pressure and volume oil pump?

Sounds like your talking BB but I know plenty of guys
that make 600+ hp on the stock pick up... a 3/8"
hole can supply a lot of oil under pressure

yup BB. is there a reason why I shouldn't use the
stock oiling system? probably going to be doing upgrades soon like a roller cam and tunnel ram so the hp might be around 650 soon.

Been running a stock but 1/2" internal pick up for almost 14 years and no issues at all even above 7000 rpm`s and that`s w/6-7 quarts in an 8-quart pan.
