I also have heard nothing but good about Rob, that is why I bought the clutch from him, I have been in business for 27 years running an auto repair shop, 5 years of that was a performance shop, bean licenced for all 27 years. I have owned this car for 32 years. I no my car. Rob never told me that there was a special bearing for Advanced clutches, in fact he told me the stock one is just fine that he has never had any trouble with them. If there was a package thing why was I not told about it, seems to me it would be a good up sell to ensure proper operation of his clutch. His web sit sees write on it all clutches are guaranteed.( defects ) Now you can't tell me you think that short arm is acceptable, not you not Rob not any body can convince me of it, nobody in the write mind would except this as a acceptable clutch. I set this clutch up to a tee of Robs instructions and phone calls, Emails and it never worked write, slipped on launch slipped in hi gear. So at the end of the day I will probable end up with a clutch that is worthless to me and $2500.00 in the hole.If I was not 1000s of miles away, me and this clutch would be be at his shop write now so I could show him first hand.
I have one of his setups too and I'm very pleased with it. Got it along with a new GForce gearbox which was the only thing which gave me a lot of trouble but had nothing to do with Rob. I don't have a special t/o bearing too and works fine so 'a special one required' is new to me too.
But you say it gives you slippage even in high gear...?? Single or dual disc setup? How many pressure in the plate? How many rpm's you leave and shift? Weight? Gearing? Tyre height? Gear ratio's? I'm currently running 8's with his setup without any trouble.
Hope you solve it as there's nothing better then rowing the gears!
My Combo
R3 block, 416 c,I Indy heads 360-2, flow 325 @.700 Indy Intake 360-3 1 7/8 headers ( self built ) Bullet rollers Cam grind # CRA 298/307-08R 860 pro systems Carb T@D rockers 1.65 / 1 71 Valiant Scamp 2900lbs race weight Coil over front suspension (self built) Ladder bar rear suspension 833 aluminum case 23 spine W liberty pro shifted and 3rd super pro shifted 4:88 gears , 8 ¾ Aluminum third member, spool, Moser axles 29.5 x 11.5 M/T slicks Adjustable 10” single disc Advanced clutch Ass, W 675 lbs base press
I was driving on the street for a bit to put some miles on my new combo, I had the clutch set at 5 turns @ 180 lbs per/turn ( felt grate) At the track I set it @3 turns launched at 5500 shifted at 7000 rpm it cam out soft 1.43 60' ran 10.30 @ 133 mph slipped in 3rd and 4th, set it back to 4 turns launched @ 5800 shifted @7300 60' 1.42 10.21 132 mph still slipping. I talked to a racer Peter Willey runs 8s same clutch, he said ad counter weight, so I added 1/4"x 3/4 aluminum bolts, same 60' 10.08 131.8 mph still slipped, I changed to steal 1/4" x 3/4 bolt 60' 1.402 9.99 @ 130 mph and 7900 rpm thr trap still felt soft on launch but better in hi gear, I never spun a tire all weekend and would not lift the front tires but that is a diff subject. but if you take 29.5 tire + growth w 4.88 gears at 7900 rpm does not ad up to 130 mph. tells me there is still slipping going on for what ever reason. Rob has contacted me today and has asked me to send the clutch back to him.
