At 900 ft/lbs you should be able to accelerate just fine without the added gear reduction.

Cummins powered rams putting out over 1500 ft/lbs use a 727 based OD trans and don't blow up when built properly .




And top fuel cars make 8000 hp with a hemi based engine....

I know for a fact the fastest drag radial cars in the country don't fall back on having a 727 built. Kevin Fiscus made 67 passes on a t400, and when they took it apart, it looked great.

FYI, kevins small block twin turbo mustang has been 4.33 at 185mph on a drag radial at 3300 lbs.
