what are you running for rear gears, tall of tire, and your shift point and trap rpm?, I run 410 now was thinking of a 430 to try

4.10 gears, and it revs so quick with the drag radials, cause they spin, I haven't had a consistant rpm yet. But 4.10 with a 28" tall tire and I am thinking a little less would be even better. Shifts come up a little quick. I started to get a good hook, and the trans let go, so I will get back to you.

4.10 gears 28 X 10.5 tires shift at 6500 and cross at 6600 with our 408 small block.

Converter is going to have alot to do with the trap RPM.

Ours flashes to 5200 on launch.

if you are crossing at 7900 with a 32" tire I would be checking something. maybe converter?

408, 4.56 gears. 28" tire. 2400rpm convertor. Shift at 6400. Go through the lights at around 6500. A tad to much gear for my combo-IMO. Going to go to a 29 or 30" tire when my existing tires get completely bald headed. Cam = Hyd. .606/.614 @ 1.6, 246 / 250, 108LSA. 180 suggested cyl press.

414 12:1 with a 266/269 @.050 107 solid roller, starting out with a 4.56 gear and a 29.5" M/T drag radial. Looking for an ~6500 shift point for mainly 1/8th mile but I'm sure the motor will rev to +7K if I need it to. Hopefully it will have enough tire not to need a taller gear for the quarter. If it's too sqirrely off the line I'll be looking to trade out to a 3.91-4.10.

Needless to say I'm really interested in this thread

I agree the vert efficiency will have a lot to do with your trap RPM, I'm starting out with a loose (36-3800 stall) 10" T/A that probably won't be very efficient up top for the 1/4...but probably not worth changing for 1/8 mile week-end action. An 8" 4500 stall (probably most ideal for this motor combo) would flip this little 85" wb car over backwards for sure.

Head flow would be helpful too...mine are stage 2 Shady Dell eddies that flow ~275 at the peak valve lift (.585). This cam is a Mopar IROC cam so it's not a really high lift, but it's a perfect low maintenance, easy-on-parts type grind for a light bracket combo.

I think a lot of guys are just running too low of gears those little big motors make lots of TQ and based on the shift RPM VS trap RPM you guys are just running out of gear at the top end, I bet most of you would be faster with a tad higher gears. Mabey if you threw out your MPH as well as trap RPM and tire height and gear we would know for sure

I am for sure. Went from a 4.10 to a 4.56 ( there were no choices inbetween for my diff ). I'm am trying to move a very heavy car. The change actually netted me about .004 in my 60 foot times and cost me about 1-2 mph and my 1/4 mile ET improved about 1/2 a tenth best I can figure - really not much change at all. I am buzzing the motor a little higher than I want to though. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed

Thanks Vic, if I thought there was a conv. that would run me quicker, I'd buy it.
