I also was thinking you can't use a JW bell with Ati case for the reasons mentioned. They mount the bells in different ways.

Look at Reid Racing (Dedenbear), they now offer their case and SB Mopar bellhousing #BH060.

If your just wanting to attached a JW Ultra bell to a stock case, you can do it with brake lathe like above but we've done a ton of them with a Sawzall, it's not pretty but all your doing it cutting the stock bell out of the way so the ultra can mount to the pump bolts so you just cut it at a little bit of an angle. (the pump is mounted to a machined surface inside the tranny and the ultra bell mounts to the outside pump surface so don't need to be precise)

I know of 100s of them done that way, yea it's crude but it works just fine.

I run a JW Ultra case and Ultra bell now but ran stock cases for year without any trouble.

I have never heard that the stock GM pump couldn't be used with the JW ultra bell. Is that like the input shaft has to be lined up with the hole in the bushing?

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Actually the JW bell is designed to be used with their front pump for a powerglide, it has a raised edge that fits in the groove on the bell.

Right here mac?

I never said it could not be used with a stock GM pump.
I was answering Steve when he asked why it does not have some way to line it up to the transmission better, That was in reply # 6535457

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this is the only one I see relating to this. I want to install one on a 727 behind a small block, I gether from the above that I can just hack the stock bellhousing off and bolt it on, doesn't have to be beautiful. Is that correct? I see them for as low as about $335, sound about right?
