I'm rebuilding my steering column and I see in the book there should be a steering shaft dust seal in the steering tube(inner tube not the black outer tube) that seals around the steering shaft. There was nothing there when I took it apart. Is there a part available or part number?
Thanks

Are you talking about the dust seal at the bottom of the shaft just above the nylon "bearing"? I used a length of 1 inch wide, black, spongy, medium closed cell, foam tape(non-adhesive backed). I rolled it around the tube until I got the desired thickness(it took about a foot), and secured it with a dab of weatherstrip adheasive.

No I did the same for that one. It's the inner tube steel finish and the solid steel shaft that goes to the steering box. I will take a picture if I can. The repair manual calls for a dust seal but there is no picture of it.

I am pretty sure it is just a foam rubber tube like they have around copper pipes.

It is a medium density adhesive backed foam... about 3/4 inch wide. You can get it at you local hardware store. Cut it to length and put it on your column and you are done.

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking it might be a bushing or bearing but thought it was strange that it was missing when I took it apart. There was no way for it to go anywhere. The foam would explain how it would have disappeared. Thanks

hmm,i thought 70 barracuda only had a foam dust seal behind the lower plastic bushing,on the lockout tube.ive only dismantled 2 -70 columns but both only had foam stripes glued? to the lock out tube, and those stripes of foam sealed to the outer column tube.
