Are they stronger than a factory 340 rod? How do they compare weight wise?

OH BOY!! Here we go.....

That being said, NO, buy scat I beams if you want a nice rod on the cheap. Im no multi engine builder, but I have a few under my belt, and Ive seen a lot of guts spilled from SIR rods.

Thats my personal opinion though.

Here you go:

I just weighed one of each.

Stock " 645 " rod: 744
Stock "798" Magnum: 743
Eagle SIR: 610.2
Scat I beam Pro Comp: 571

I'd be choosing the Scat way before the others.

I have the scat rods in 3 different engines, and childs track masters in my 408 in the demon, they all were GREAT lookin rods, and non needed a lot of block clearances. The SIRs I have in a 360 needed a lot of honeing on the wrist pin bushings, and also needed the big end resized. That puney lookin cap looks like it distorts a bunch.

That being said after i had the SIR rods worked over, I had more than a set of H beams, both my Chids rods and the Scat rods miked out really good from the box.

Been running them for 3+ years now in my 408 with no problems. Engine is probably in the 475HP range and don't go over 6500rpm. No block clearancing needed.

They're light, about all I can say for them. That being said, I have a set in my 360. Had them in a 408, with an eagle cast crank. Which is why I now have them in a 360...
If I had it to do over again, I would have bought Scats (they're 4340) and gone with a FORGED Scat 4" stroke.

I have a set in my Mom's Duster 362". I bought them without really asking around and then found out they don't have a good rep. That being said these rods are going on their fourth season. Best pass of a 11.48@113 shifting at 6000rpm in a almost street car. So far so good. They did need a little work done to make them right.

I have a set in my 340, it was around 450 hp with the ported Edelbrocks. They ran for six years on the street and strip with no issues, I turned it from 6400-6700. I bought them before I knew there were any problems with them. I would buy Scats if I were doing that engine over again.

I have a set in my 360 Barracuda, 3 years, have run a best of 11.1@120mph, shift at 64-6600rpm, bumped 7400 rpm chip more than once. I asked a very similar question a while ago got pretty much the same answers as are being posted here now. That said, I've never seen a failure. Asked an engine builder friend if he had ever seen a failure and he hadn't. Take things with a grain of salt; remember, you can break anything given time and was it the rod that broke first or something else?

I agree, I have had no problems with eagle rods. I question the engine build more than the rod.
