Hello All, Just stripping down the doors on my Charger, removing the trim, door handles, etc. My Phillips screwdriver doesn't seem to be doing the job on the 3 bolts (screws) that hold the door mechanism in place, I also have a socket attachment that seems to shallow to get proper grip, I really don't want to round them and then have to drill them out or something. Any ideas? Borrowed a pic from the web. ~ Alan.

You have to have an impact screw driver. You hit it with a hammer and it turns the screw little by little.

Those screws that you show don't have the correct under head shape. They should be countersink or beveled under the head. Whack the screw driver with a hammer as said and then use the correct size screw driver, if you have too attach vise grips to the screw driver for more leverage.

I use a big phillips head.Put it in then give it a smack with a hammer while turning it.It takes a large one.The impact driver works great too.Just sometimes I dont have it here.Rocky

You may need a Posi-drive screw driver bit. If the screws have small hash marks in the cross of the slots it's posi-drive. A phillips screw driver will strip out the head of the screw.
I had to google what that was, lol. I'll have to give that a try as well, thanks.

As I said the impact driver is probally best. The big thing is most people dont have a really big phillips. They try to use a small one.I have 2 real big ones. One Craftsman thats probally 30 years old and a SnapOn.Ive removed quite a few with just them.I like the Snapon best because it has a hex head that a wrench fits on.Rocky
