Ive seen this happen at a tractor pull.

The announcer called it "an unscheduled high speed engine dis-assembly "

Apparently not that uncommon.

Yet still spectacular. I like the block landing right next to the "engine" area, as if you could just hoist it back up into place and fire it up!
Now if it were only that easy.......

Read somewhere else that it was a DT466. If that's the case then there is probably more like 700 pounds of iron flying around.

Anybody wonder why there wasn't adaquate motorplate & midplate on that rig?

As mentioned, the driver is lucky it took flight in the direction it did.

There's a reason for safety rules.

I think part of the block is still connected. If you look closely at what is laying on the ground, I believe we are looking at the cylinders from the inside. Perhaps the block just split and it really did jump off the pistons?

Ok, after looking at it some more, it does look like the shortblock, or lower part of the crankcase, is still intact.

Scary.

That is what happens when you take an engine designed to turn 2500 rpm's max and then twist it 7000.

A little copper coat on the head gaskets and that kind of thing wouldn't happen...

It definitely lifts the cylinders off the block. Here's another video with a shot of the aftermath.
