For an upcoming project car of mine, I'm trying to build a pretty quiet 3" diameter full exhaust system.
I'll be using a Summit 3" headerback system (SUM-680141-NM), accompanied by an X-pipe, a pair of Dynomax 23" (Edit: 27") long Super Turbo mufflers (17769) and a pair of Dynomax 3" Race bullets (24215) acting as resonators in the back next to the fuel tank.

Is anyone running such a similar exhaust system perhaps and what are your findings/ideas?

Pretty much what I am going to run and a poster (on here) said to add a horizontle standpipe section to each bend as it goes over the axle ~ 1.5 ft or so capped at the end & this dead end addition reportedly accoustically cancells enough sound waves to make a substantial difference. If it's still too loud I am going to use some quiet mufflers and some 3" cutouts (Might be for the better as by the time they hear the open pipes the money will be in the hands of a neutral party )

Huh?

An X-pipe system with straight through mufflers such as Magnaflows, with tailpipes and bullets near the back bumper for resonators will be quiet and not slow the car down, you won't even need cutouts.

the capped standpipe setup sounds hokey (must cause some of the sound waves to cancel as they bounce back) but the guy said it works and I have a buddy that is a skilled welder (& works cheap) and a 3" system is not going to be quiet (unless the muffs are VERY restricted) and I dont want restricted muffs and anything that will help quiet things is worth a try & I will post pics/results (good or bad).

572 hemi in a 72 b body
i have 4" collectors on my headers.
i narrow that down to 3 1/2" before the X pipe. have cut outs to open the exhaust before the X pipe inlet.
after the X pipe i have 3" to the mufflers, hooker aero chambers 3" inlet and exhaust.
then 2 1/2" tail pipes.
the car is very quiet. almost to quiet even for the old man behind the wheel.
i had 3" tail pipes and it was to loud for me so i installed the 2 1/2 tail pipes.
i have cheap access to a chassis dyno so i did comparison tests on the same day of the change. i lost 4hp going to the 2 1/2 pipes. not much loss for peace and quiet on long drives.

I've currently got a pair of Dynomax mufflers under my '60 Chrysler.
They were a tad too loud for my taste aswell at low rpm so I installed a pair of resonators. The sound is pretty decent now, even without a balance-pipe.

Are those 23" dynomax super turbos quiet until you get on it or not quiet all the time? I already have the mufflers and 3" tips for a complete 3" system, just wondering what to expect.

Frank,I consider mine loud all the time.I don't know if the Max Wedge manifolds contribute to it or not.I know I would sure like a little less noise.I have the same Super Turbo muffler on my Superbird only in 2 1/4".Totally different, sounds like the old Street Hemi muffler.

Do you have the long or short Dynomax mufflers?

Hummmnn??? I beleive they are the short "turbo" type Dynomax. I got it as a complete kit from TTI

So did you like the sound??

Sounds good enough for a musclecar-Mopar to me!
No H or X pipe in the exhaust?

I still hope my Chrysler will be quieter though.
