The floor in my convertible is VERY solid but has some pin holes and a tear on the passengers side where one of the seat bolt holes is. I've coated it with Zero Rust top and bottom. The car will never be a 100 point show car due to the tag/build sheet not being there. So, would you replace the floor or just put something on to seal it (roll on bedliner, etc)? I have access to a 4 door with a great floor but I have to remove it and I don't really have the tools to do that where I'm at. So....
Yeah I left my tools at home too. Do it once do it right cut out the rust and weld in good metal.

Pin holes are easy to fix. Blast clean & then use POR-15 or something similar to fill them in. Use tape on the bottom of the floor so the paint does not drip out while it dries. Save ALL the original metal you can. Save the 4-door too if you can?

T/A - Thanks!!! That was my thought then use bedliner, lizard skin, etc. I may attempt to get the floor out of that 4 door. It's been pretty picked over and the dash pretty much destroyed. My biggest issue is the spot welds along the sides. I think I could just drill through all the spotwelds with a regular bit but I'm not sure how the sides of the pan are welded in. I guess I could cut the rocker if it came down to it. The car has great frame rails, inner fenders, etc but it is a 4 door and WILL go to the crusher.
I pulled the floor out of a 4 door for my 68 Sport Satellite 'vert years ago , just get a 1/8" and 3/8" drill bit and a center punch , center punch all the holes and predrill with the 1/8" all the way thru , there are A LOT of spot welds so get a few bits of each size and drill away , use a chisel or long flat blade screwdriver of pop the ones that you didn't get exactly on center and sawsall the seam at the firewall thru the firewall.

I would save the floor, especially if it's only got a few pin holes, as Barry said, that's easy to deal with as long as you blast away ALL of the rust first. I don't like POR15, I'd either use small welds to fill and grind the holes flush or splice in small patch panels with butt welds. Regular metal prep and a good epoxy primer should do a fine job of preventing future rust until you are dead and buried if you do it right and avoid driving the thing in the snow and salt. IMO original metal is ALWAYS better than replacement metal, getting the spot welds removed and replaced around the rocker areas is near impossible to replicate when replacing floor pans. Yes, it gets covered, etc. but it's still there. Reproduction metal has it's place, but IMO only when absalutely required as a last resort.

If your description is accurate, a very solid floor with a FEW pinholes, solder them up with an electric soldering iron and move on.

Responses are all over the map, 'cause we really don't know what the floor looks like. In general, I'm with Scott; try to save what you can, BUT I'm not one to bandaid stuff either so it really depends whether the floor is A: rust free for the most part (i.e. still has paint on it) with a small area or two of rust and/or crustyness OR B: surface rust on all the lower surfaces with pitting all over the place but only pinholes in a few areas. With A, I'd either clean up and save the whole thing or cut and patch only where necessary using proper butt welding procedures. If using patches, I'd prefer rust free original donor panels With B, I'd probably replace the entire floor at the factory weld points. Dave

Without pics, kinda hard to give judgement. However,I can offer an opinion based on my experience. I thought my floors were good until I stripped all the factory undercoating and gutted the interior. I went over the whole floor with a hammer and if it went through,I cut, fabbed, and welded in patches. I saved as much of the original floor as possible since it did not need any large areas replaced at one time. It just had tiny peppered holes that were easily filled with the MIG and brass plug.Other areas needed small patches of 20 guage sheetmetal. After grinding down the welds, the floor was strong and looked great.

When you say you used "brass plug" are you talking you brazed the holes closed?
He means putting some brass on the other side of the hole when he fills the hole with weld.
