Is there a slick means of switching an auto column shift {power} to floor getting rid of PRND display and shift arm /. Can the column cowling be switched to smooth type or is it more involved than this.?? Thanks

the best way is to find a 4 speed column.

Find a 4 speed column? Sure. They are everywhere, and cheap too. I see them for $5 at every swap meet.
NOT.
Heres a better idea. Look in your local wrecking yards for 72-80 Dodge trucks with 4 speeds. The steering column parts are very similar. I have converted several column shift steering columns this way. They will not have the key lock lever like all the 71 and later cars did, but that wasn't an issue for me.

Remove the bowls, cut the shifter tab and gear indicator tab off, fill them in, then repaint.

I don't know about 72-80 but my 82 truck did have a key release button, so if you find an 82-up column, it should have what you need. And they are easy to take apart. I have done several this way. Good luck.

this is a quick and cheap way of doing it.
Even if I scored a manual column I would sell it and do it this way.
the finished product will look way nicer.

+1 here, not hard on the Mopars to cut off the mentioned pieces, fill, sand and repaint it to make it look like a floor shift column. A little time consuming, but quicker than looking for and changing out everything to a 4-speed column, and you can't tell the difference when it's done..

I've been wanting to do something like this also. I've heard it is easy to switch the tops sections. But have never seen any details on doing it.I've been a little leary of tearing mine up and running into a problem.
Same with cutting the column shift piece off.
Can someone post some instructions and pics etc here to help some of us out?
thanks,

Don't be intimidated. go for it.
The part you are modifying is very cheap and easy to find.
