I agree with chip!!! Keep your ride... Part out the top end and a cam change... Should give you enough cash to set your ride up for pro touring deal...

My setup is a stock 833 trans out of an E-body. McLeod Dual Disc RST clutch. Stock pedals, Hurst Super shifter III, Dana 60, ET Street (bias ply) tires at the track.

In order to eliminate some human error and be more consistent, I installed a roller switch on my clutch pedal. Very easy to wire up a cool two step rpm limiter. I push the clutch in, push one (momentary) button, and that "sets" the two step rpm limit. It won't come off that until the clutch is all the way out (launching). Then the relay goes to normal (no more two step) for all other shifts. Pretty cool. So it leave at the same rpm every run. No more finger co=ordination with the foot!

Seems very consistent, as I ran two runs with the same launch setup, and the 60' times were almost exact!

My dad and I both have our cars setup to spin the tires (limited) on the launch, to keep the rpms up and not break stuff. Clutch is locked 100% and doesn't slip at all.

If we get the tires to spin about 2 -3 revs (look at the video camera after a pass), that seems about right. I'm pulling the wheels and spinning the tires on the launch....kinda "early pro-stock like". Works great. Got to use Bias ply tires, because drag radials don't like to recover consistently, once they start spinning.

I power shift all the gear changes and that's with a 100% stock trans! No proshifting, no faceplates,.... Stock 23 spline. Can drive it on the street 100% normal, like the day it came from Detroit.

I'm loving it!

I have been helping my friends drop LS motors in there old cars.

buy a cheap intake and throw a carb on with a MSD box that runs the ignition. that is where its at!! these new Hemi motors need to drop in price a little and we will be able to do the same thing.

i have a friend i helped slap a turbo on a basically stock LS motor. he has like no money in this setup and runs about what i run. so it has to be making over 700hp. and he has never put race gas in the car either.

the tall valve covers and mod man intake that Indy makes for the Hemi look period correct with a modern twist.

I cant wait for prices to come down on these junk yard hemi engines

Bob, keep what you have... Just like Chip, I'm NOT a big fan of the new Challengers... Detune, the Dat, make it more user friendly in the interior department, and drive it. Hey I have 2 STREET cars sitting in my garage right now, and neither one has been outside since my Dad and brother brought them here to store them... Neither one has the time to come take them out , so it's not just a race car thing. Other commitments will be there just like now.

This is kind of a epidemic or it could be something a lot of us Moparts 35-45 year olds can get through together.

I have tossed around the idea of caging my car for a couple of years now. I'm kinda glad I didn't so I guess for now I will slow down a little and enjoy while I still can.
As for the wagon my dream is to put a new Hemi and a 5spd manual in it and beat the hell out of it. But Family 1st

Rickster,
Last time I was launching at 5,000 and shifting anywhere from 6,200 to 6,500. Next time out, I may up both of those numbers.

Maybe......but I haven't lost interest in my car.

All good ideas...its fairly easy to build a smooth and powerful pump gas motor with all thats available, that wont be loud and smelly..lol you dont need a cage, make the car comfortable. A five speed is a good idea for milege.

i think whipple may have something in the works for the new generation hemi, for a LA smallblock i have only found two options and i have thought about a third
1: indy modman intake for LA or magnum motors with a just a adaptor plate.
2: custom built for real low profile (alot more money 2000$ and up for just a manifold)
3: this is something i havent looked deeper into but it may be possible to use a smallblock chevy intake with adaptorplates and some machinework since it looks like a smallblockmopar intake is alitle wider compared to a SBC but i dont have this confirmed but the port layout is fairly close

twinscrews can be fairly easy to hide under a low scoop and will make stupid boost only drawback is the cost and they have a whine all of there own

I love my SRT Challenger.
It's 4300#s of luxury and style. And at 1200 miles has went 8.60's in the 1/8. That's fast enough to get your attention. I got a win in it already as well. And I haven't touched it yet.
My wife has drove mine and likes it's ride over her camaro and it seats five.
Just something tothink about.

I'd like to do up an early A-body sedan with a modern 5.7 Hemi and 5 speed.

For now I'm happy with my '63 330 that's going together with very mild 440, 3.55's and sure-grip in the rear.

Last car I did like this got decent mileage (14-15mpg@70mph) on the highway and was very pleasant to drive around town.

Thank you.........NOTHING takes the place of a cool and FAST old muscle car and that`s why most people/families have more than one car..........

Street car =

Your current car but with....EFI and runnen on pump gas, and DOT tires & mufflers.

Already running on pump gas and through an exhaust system. I run 93 octane on the street and mix in one gallon of 110 at the track as an additive.

I had a good conversation with my chassis friend tonite, if I do decide to let the Dart go we have a good game plan to build one the way I want it. It would cost way too much money to convert this car and it's too nice of a setup to tear apart.

LOL, you got me there. Losing interest just comes from not having time to enjoy a car with slicks and a roll cage. I'm planning on finally hitting the track this weekend and I'm actually excited about it!

Bob,
You would be missing the speed and all that you love in your car in about 6 weeks. The next 6 years and all the sports will be gone before you know it. I am sure your son will like the racing with you and therefore you would be changing the car back to race in a few years. Leave it the way it is and enjoy when you can. As you know, I have two nice street cars and I have about as much time for them as I do the Dartport. It is a hassle but nothing beats it when we do get out.
Dave
