I have an 2002 Town and Country. When you start it and put it in drive it over revs and the transmission won't go into overdrive. You put it in park and turn it off and restart it and its fine. This happens every time. Any ideas on what it is? It seems like some solenoid or sensor isn't getting the right signal.

the trans solonoid is a common problem, also that harness has a plug on the frame rail below the battery that corrodes

Thanks. The TCM or the shift module?

the solonoid is under the trans cooler lines in the front bolted down into the top of the trans pan...rockauto sells it the cheapest..made by dorman..I thought my trans went also and for the 126.00 dollars i went with that and knock on wood..it's fine..

I found rebuilts for $39.00 and new for about $80.00. I have a 4 WD and a 41TE not a 604. Also the TCU for $199.00. Now I just have to get to it. It's definitely not a bad tranny. If I put it in park and shut it off then restart it it works fine.

a 41TE IS a 604

You REALLY need to check the TCM for codes before you start tossing parts at it, There are a couple of other things that can cause that problem.

A code reader won`t do, find someone with a REAL scan tool and check it.

The scan tool gives me a 0700 code, says that it is in limp mode and a "relay is always open" error. Does that narrow it down any?
BTW tossing parts is what most of the shops here do and at $90.00-100.00 an hour. So even if I change the TCM and Solenoid at $300.00 and my labor it's cheaper than having them put in an hour and put in the same parts and charge me full retail on the parts.

So I did the solenoid and sensors tonight. Still same code. 700 relay stuck open. Where is there a relay that can be replaced?

There is no way to say this politly so here goes .
Unless your aim is really good ( meaning lucky ) Tossing parts at it isn't going to fix anything.

You already have a code, perform diagnostics on said code and see where it takes you.
There is a trans relay but it's location varies with year , and I dont have the manual in front of me to say for sure where it's at

ps . I just ck'd P0700 is not a valid code .This is from dealer connect - mopars tech assistance website

0700 is a PCM/ECM code indicating there is a TCM DTC present, it is meaningless for diagnostics in this case.

Good luck throwing parts at it

Looks just like the one I am using but my wiring isn't that messy.

Actually for my year the code generally means an EATX problem but it's been replaced. I borrowed all the scan tools and threw parts at it. I'll throw a couple of hundred and hope for luck after that I figured time to do it correct with no success.

That's what the TSB says. And giving me crap ain't helping me fix my problem, is it? If I knew what it was do you think I would be asking for help?

You need a service manual and a scan tool that will read trans codes, thats the ONLY way to do it right. the last 2 i fixed this week were wiring problems,no parts, just wiring repairs, hope this helps.

As said before p0700 "ETAX DTC present" is a PCM code that is triggered when there is a fault detected by the TCM. p0700 only turns the mil light on, it is not for diagnostics.

You need a scan tool that can communicate with the TCM to see what the detailed faults are then diag those.

For a "delayed engagement" after a long soak (hours) I would guess Torque converter drain back and/or weak pump. (have done many)

If this happens after just a few minuets of off time I would think it is an electrical problem or a sticking valve in the valve body.

Good Luck,
Gary.
