Mike, i've had the shackles do this on 2 SS spring installations, it would lift the car so much that the shackles were angled around 1:00 (top) & 7:00 possition, you will need to currect this by adding blocks behind the shackle mounts to get it to at least around 11:00 & 5:00.

Now are you shure you are looking at it right?

Yes,looking at it right....Now,my motor is not in the car yet, will that make a difference??? Top of shackle is at 1:00 and the bottom is at 7:00 just like yours was.

Either you moved the whole axle and front spring
boxes forward OR the front segments of the springs
are shorter... you want 30*-35* on the shackle (top
leaning forward)

I agree. Are the springs in the factory location or moved into the frame?

Also a very stiff spring will lift the body way too
much to give the same effect.... the engine not being
in the car will have little to no change on the back
end unless you have moved the engine rearward...
the rear segment is the spring portion of the spring
the front segment is the locator and lift portion

You might consider the afco rear spring sliders if you have to find a fix.

Maybe some small mounting boxes needed to give the spring istall its proper oem position would be needed.

I went this way.
It also dropped the car about an inch in the tail , which was cool with me.
They pop up on ebay once in a while........I got them for 80.00 new.

i would think you would be better off moving the shackle mount on the frame.

If it is anything like mine........1 " might be plenty. ( 1965 Dart )
I made boxes in the 3 " neighborhood and it was too much by a bunch.
That was with the 7/8ths offset kit.
I went to sliders when I moved the springs under the frame rails.

I did buy new hangers from Firm Feel and we bolted the spings in the upper hole to bring the back of the car down.

This is the correct way to mount them.......travel is forward to back , not up and down.
The car is on stands in the pic , which is why they are all the way forward.
They settle to about 1/2 way in the travel when it is on the ground.
To mount them outside the frame rail would require some fabbing.........making a small " platform " for them to sit on and attaching it to the frame.
But it wouldn't be too difficult I think.

Ok...When doing this I would guess that you would have to bolt the sliders to the leafs then weld it to the frame....My question is...Do you weld it to the frame when the leaf is in the front, middle or back of slider????

When useing sliders, should you use aluminum bushing in the front??

Tubar...did you say it dropped your car down 1"??? My new hangers dropped it down about an 1" so if that will give me another 1",that would be GREAT!!!!

I actually loaded the rear suspension and put the eye in the middle of the travel.....then tacked the slider to the frame , removed the leaf and welded it in.
I am using aluminum front bushings too.
The rear eye on the spring is at least an inch lower than before.......maybe as much as 1 1/2 " lower.

I am running into the same issue on a 68 Barracuda S/S clone. I am using the DC offset front hangers and shackles. When I mocked up my Dana, the rear shackles are pointed forward, it seems that the wheel is moved forward slightly in the wheelwell and the car sits WAY too high. I am using 10.5"x29.5" slicks and I realize that I will have to elongate the wheel openings in the front area for the bigger diameter slicks but the shackle position and rear ride height has to change. I am thinking about de-arching the springs about 2" but won't this change the spring rate decreasing the effectiveness of the S/S springs? I would think flattening out the spring some would also correct the shackle angle as well? I really don't want to add blocks to the rear spring hangers. Thoughts?

No it wont change the spring rate if they put it
back to what it was after de-arching it... it would
only lower the end point of the spring, any good
spring shop can do it

Not just yet.
The car is still in the air............but the height reduction is based on where I see the rear spring eye compared to where it was with shackles.
I also moved the front eye back 3/4 of an inch when I installed the front spring hangars and should have gone for more.
The front of the wheel well will be the first place to hit when stuffing big hides in there.
I have nearly 14 " of usable width , so the drawback will be tire diameter.
I am at 28 " now with an inch to spare.......but with 3.91's , I think this is going to be just fine.
Moving the axle C/L back will allow a taller tire and there is a LOT of room behind the tire.

do the sliders improve the launch and traction? I have my springs moved in to the frame and i just welded a few tubes in the frame and drilled 3 holes in the front mount so I have 3 mounting location for adjustment if i need to move the rear end. The rear end was farther foward in the wheel opening so i centered it for tire clearance

I can't say .......my deal is still in the build stage.
For what it's worth , they allow the spring to react with out any binding and have far less friction than the stock arrangement.
They are way more common in oval track applications I think.
But it works on paper.

I took Mr P Body's advice and a friend of mine made up some aluminum plates/spacers to put in front of the hangers. It moved my rear back 1/2" which makes the tires in the wheel well look better and it also gave me more room to run a 29" tire to fill in the wheel well more.

Doing that,it did help with my shackle. The top is now at about 12:30-12:15 and the bottom is around 6:30-6:15. I will try and take a pic today.

Any other suggestions besides sliders or is that the best and easiest fix??

Your still going to have to move the top of the
shackle forward in the rail.... you want 30* - 35*
leaning forward with the weight on it

Any other suggestions??

This is what iv'e done, the rear spring shackle is about 30* rearward, using a 2" spacer.

GREAT pictures and NICE duster!!!! Looks like thats what im gonna have too do with the shackles. I do have the Firm Feel hangers to drop the rear down 1" but im thinking about putting in 2" lowering blocks.

What size rim/tires on the back??

Thanks for the compliment, when i bought the car it had a A body 8 3/4 with redrilled registers and wheel spacers because of the rim back spacing. I also could not handle that the rear wheel track was narrower than the front track. I bought a 67 Charger diff from Moparts member 67Charger, it really fits like a glove. The rims are 8" with 5.5" backspacing and i have 275-60 drag radials. Years ago i used the same rear shackel spacers and 2" lowering blocks on the other Duster in my avater and ran a 10.46 with a 1.47 60' , so it can and will work.

Thanks!!!!! Right now I have 15x8 rims with a 4.5 bs. I also run 28x11.5 QTP's but have to use 7/16 wheel spacers.
