well this is what i just did i bought a fitting (brass) that would work but the center hole was steped the probe would fit half way down till it met the steped part so i got a drill bit that was same size as the hole and drilled the other 1/4 inch way out now probe fits and sticks out the bottom like it should now i got to find a hole in the firewall big enuff for the fitting to pass through

On my Dart there is an oval sorta shaped body plug towards the bottom of the firewall, near where the steering column goes through.

Did you not receive anything in the instructions that talked about an adapter? AutoMeter offers many options for this. You can buy one that goes in the heater hose or the radiator hose that will allow accurate readings. This can be the easiest, and will let you use your factory set up and the after market also.
PM me if you want any info etc on autometer stuff, I'll give you the name of the person to talk to over there.
