I had the same issue when I bought my Dart.

I bought the same gauge, and needed the same fitting to screw into the Stealth intake. Ended up having to go to a speed shop to find the fitting that the probe would fit properly into. The hardware store fittings that I found locally would screw into the intake, and the fitting from the gauge would screw into that one, but the probe would not seat. It would pass through the hardware store fitting.

The speedshop fitting was actually an Autometer brand fitting.

Today I installed a 440 source housing on my 493, and I needed yet another fitting to make the gauge work.

Never ends.

Hope this helps.

Remember that for the gauge to register accurately the probe has to be submerged in the full flow of the coolant at all times. The more fittings used the less possible this is and the more probable for air bubbles and air pockets to occur. To do it right the intake or housing should be removed and drilled and tapped to accept the proper fitting.

well this is what i just did
i bought a fitting (brass) that would work but the center hole was steped
the probe would fit half way down till it met the steped part so i got a drill bit that was same size as the hole and drilled the other 1/4 inch way out now probe fits and sticks out the bottom like it should
now i got to find a hole in the firewall big enuff for the fitting to pass through

On my Dart there is an oval sorta shaped body plug towards the bottom of the firewall, near where the steering column goes through.

Did you not receive anything in the instructions that talked about an adapter? AutoMeter offers many options for this. You can buy one that goes in the heater hose or the radiator hose that will allow accurate readings. This can be the easiest, and will let you use your factory set up and the after market also.

PM me if you want any info etc on autometer stuff, I'll give you the name of the person to talk to over there.
