Probably a silly question however I'm not at home and can't look at the carbs or check the FSM right now.

So how do you pre-fill the fuel bowl on a six pack? Assuming I only have to do the center carb to get her started. Engine already broken in and dynod but this would be he first start in awhile. Do I fill through the sight plug?

Thanks guys.

you can do it thru the bowl vent tube , site plug out so you don't overfill it

I fill it the vent right down the vent. I use a large syringe.

Ok...out of curiosity where is the vent tube on the center carb? I think I recall them on the outboards but not sure about the center.

the hole in the middle of the carb...right here. and no need to fil the out boards. I'd unhook them until you get the idle speed and vacuum you like.

Aren't the outboards open slightly and also have a small amount of fuel pulling at idle to keep the fuel fresh? That would affect idle quality. I'd prime them all and make sure the needles and seats work on the all at that first fire-up.

The outboards should have no effect on idle. They should be shut. This is what I was told by a few 6-pack guys. You can prime the outboards but they will fill up in no time. This is how I did my engine with the new cam and last year when I bolted the 6-pack on. We didn't even hook up the outboard linkage until we had a good idle, timing was set and a good 14lbs of vacuum. Seems to work. I'll let you know how they pull as soon as I get my steeering column adaptor

Do you have small kids?
If so, use the squeezeball thing that you clean their nose with.
I call it a booger-snuffer!
just pour some gas in a cup then suck it up with the booger-snuffer and squeeze it into the fuel bowl vent, works perfect!!

The outboards have no effect on the idle? Really?

hey this is my frist one 6-pack). And both people that have helped have had plenty of 6-pack knowledge and 3800+lbs cars that run 11's, so I trust them. They both have had multiple nice running six-pack cars and both told me to do it this way. DO they have an effect? maybe but they SHOULD not be open at all when the car is in P and the idle is at 800 or so. That'd be like your secondaries on a 4bbl being open a tad. I can see if you have some BIG duration choppy cam but for a mild build or newer cam grind the outboards shouldn't need to be cracked to get a good idle. I believe I even read that on a post here last year about tuning a 6-pack. I read where guys drive 50+ miles to the track w/o the outboards even hooked up for milage, then hook them up then run. It works for me.

outboard carbs, when closed, contribute to the idle mixture. there are idle circuts in both outboards.

FYI , outboards have a little lot to do with idle .. You must have misunderstood the six pack gurus .. You can tune the carbs without the linkage connected ( dont know why you would want to )But
dont be misled , maybe your brand new carbs out of the box may have factory plugs in the idle air mixture screws in the base , they are for idle ..
Promax sells custom plates that enable you to tune the carbs without pulling the center off ..
You MIGHT be able to tune a small cam engine without tuning the outboards (not sure) , BUT you'll eventually pull the factory plugs out ..
So prime the carbs if you need to but theres awesome links on this website when it comes time to tuning , Be careful who you get advice from ..

An old gear lube bottle turned upside down with the bottom cut off makes a good carburetor funnel for filling the bowl. The pointed little cap on top will go right in the vent tube.
