If I recall correctly the mini-starters are damn near universal. and SHOULD fit past your headers with little to no clearancing... *cough*

The problem with the factory mini starter is they stick outward from the block and some headers occupy this area.

The Rob MC starter can be rotated to any position. A little pricy but hopefully I will have it for a couple years or more before it needs to be serviced.

Short mopar starter with the stupid headman header

Below is the same tube with the mc starter!

Rear shot in the 1 o’clock position

Even at the 3 o’clock position there is more room than the stock mini starter!

5 o’clock position

Edit: June 21 I resized the pics so it won't be so hard to read this post.

Thank you for posting the photos Health. By using planetary gear reduction rather than offset reduction, we can keep the motor very close to the block.

HOWEVER, please keep in mind, our starter will not clear some aftermarket blocks (such as Indy Max or World Products) when using a 130 tooth ring gear (all automatics and some manual trans) because the blocks are wider in the starter area.

O.K. maybe I'm reading this wrong, but what I gather from this is that it will NOT fit my 727?

Not if you are using an Indy or WP block. Otherwise, yes.

I use the Mopar starter on my sons 400 and I bought a "Power Master" starter for the 440 in my 63. Both work great. The Dart has 2" CPPA headers and my 63 has 1-3/4 Hedmans. Ron

Depends on what you want, but if your starter has been resting on the header for a while, it is ready to die anyways, so putting on a new header that clears that old starter will still mean you have a old starter that's has been subject to a lot of heat.

In other words if you buy a new header you should buy a new starter too. If you buy the correct starter for your application, you will have less headaches.

Boy I'm going to repost the pictures so this post is not so awkward to read.

The following 5 pictures are repost so I will not have to host them. Please disregard as they are posted above. sorry.

Short starter with Headman header...

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.
