Ok, I made the recent budget build 360 (425 hp) thread not to long ago. Well I was able to find a 2001 Magnum motor that was only $200 dollars. Once we took it apart we noticed that the heads were cracked . I did some searching on e-bag and come across a company that rebuids Magnum heads and has been in business for 30+ years. Here is there link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...565164&rd=1The price is $175 per head and they accept cracked heads as cores! I have a few questions would these be adequate heads for a low buck, but fun street stroker in an A-body? When the money is right I will either buy some EQ heads or Eddies, but will these hold me over till then? The block has to be bored .030 over and I'm planning on going with the Scat Stroker kit. I'm leaning towards a single plan Edelbrock intake with a 750 3310 Holley carb. As far as the camshaft goes, that's where I'm totally clueless. I'm sure I'll be using Comp. I don't really mind an aggressive cam so some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My ultimate goal would be in the 425hp range and 450+ tq. If it makes more, then even better. Instead of going through my engine shop I'm going to come up with a parts list and source them all on my own to save the extra cash. I'm sure some of my information that I supplied is very vague, but when it comes to engines, I know absolutely nothing. I want to be able to run in the mid 12's for sure in a 3300 pound A-body that has 4.10 gears. So if anyone can shed some light on terrible questions (best I can do ). I will jump through hoops and cut back flips! Thanks again Moparts! Regards, Charles

well, you're going to need to do some port clean up on stock magnums to hit 425+ HP, nothing major, Dulcich had an article in an '05 mopar muscle with some minor bowl, valve job, and port pinch work that added ~25CFM to flow on some maggies, which would yield them to support 450-460hp.
one thing to remember with the reman heads--you'll still need to buy new springs/retainers for any type of performance cam, so that'll add more cost, whereas CME engines sells new enginequest heads w/ chevy +.1" long valves, 5 angle valve job, and springs that'll handle a hydraulic roller up to ~.550" lift for under $900/pr. if you're into some reman heads for $350, and have to spend another $200-300 for springs & retainers (hard to find a low cost spring/retainer solution for mag heads, unless you can find a few 2.2L/2.5L mopars in junkyards to yoink the retainers off of), it might be better just to go new/chev 11/32" stem valves.
what kind of R's do you want to turn? maggies have a small cross section, and they'll make their best power on a 408 on the idle-5500 RPM range, so I'd cam accordingly (probably a roller cam similar to the crate motor cam, but with a little wider LSA, personally). you might want to save the $$ and just use some 0 deck KB107's and the stock stroke.

The price is really nice on the 408 Blue Print Engines and the warranty is a very nice addtion. I've just heard mixed reviews regarding these engines. Basically all I'd need to do is buy a carb, some headers and call it a day. $4200 doesn't sound so bad. I wish I just knew more about the company and this particular motor before dropping that kind of scratch. If there are a few owners or people that know someone who has one on the site that has a substantial amount of information on these engines could you guys/gals chime in? For instance do they only come in black? I'd def. like to have mine orange. Luckily if I do happen to go this route I only spent a little over $200 for the Magnum motor. Everything on the motor besides the heads are good to go. Is there a market on any of these parts (Crank, bare block etc) so I can at least recoupe my money? Gosh I love this hobby, but when it comes to certain things I crawfish (means change my mind in cajun country) on what I'm going to do. I'm just a college student with limited funds, trying to build a very nice engine without having to visit the plasma facility weekly.

Was yours the 408 stroker? And if so, are you pleased with it? Did you get the base engine or the turnkey engine? All info will be helpful.
Thanks

If I may ask, what did the engine cost and was there a core charge? What did you install the engine in? Thanks
