Hi Guys,
I'm converting my 68 Coronet to discs using the later model (73 charger) single pot calipers.
My question is..
Where does the wire spring clip fit?
Cheers
Simon

are you using the pin type or slider calipers? On the pin type the wire clip is used to fasten the outboard pad to the caliper for installation, and the pins go through the little indents keeping it there for road use.

Hi Robert,
Yes you are right it has been a while, due to the economic climate in the uk at the moment i've not been able to do much with my car this year.
I got the disc conversion second hand from a guy in belgium and apart from that i've got a new engine bay wiring loom to fit and i also got some of the new colored seat belts from bea body parts.
How have you been getting on?
Cheers
Simon

I just got a part time job which is always good for the ole self esteem and more money for Mopar parts and me and another Mopar head may be opening a Mopar eng/trans restoration facility if this wealthy individual follows thru so lately I have been getting on pretty good. With you being "over there" it reminds me of the time 15 yrs ago I had a chance to buy a 64 valiant convertible here in Lincoln that had been shipped over from down under w the steering wheel on the right hand side!

Not trying to be critical, but just wanting you to have the brakes on correctly so they will work properly. You need to swap your calipers from each side of the car that they are on, to the other side. You will proably have to swap spindle and all to do it. The bleeder screws need to be at the highest point possible to prevent air bubbles from being trapped in the calipers. The brake hoses will go behind the shocks when mounted correctly, and the ones you have might not be long enough. Cudazappa was correct in the reply about the clips. Good luck.

A trans and engine repair shop sounds great, just your kind of thing i would guess.
i've heard the rumours about the 'right hand drive' conversions, they all sound pretty awful, with lots of linkages involved,i remember somebody once told me about a conversion that involved two sprockets and a chain drive for the steering!

Calipers will have to be switched side-to-side. You may have problems with those hoses but Dr.Diff has a set to do that rear-mount caliper installation.

Here's a shot of that caliper (yes, its a long link !!):

Hi JD.
I did wonder about that.
i've swapped the calipers side to side and the banjo bolt on the hose fouls on the shocker on full lock.
If i mount 'em the other way ie calipers towards the front of the shock as opposed to the rear i have no steering due the caliper fouling on the anti roll (sway)bar

Best bet will be to change calipers to one with a better hose routing.

Andy,
I think you are probably saying what i'm thinking.
I bought these fro a guy who said they were 68 Coronet when what he actually meant was that they had been fitted to a 68 coronet by somebody else.
i think i might just put my drums back on a give them a good seeing to

The disc brakes will work fine, you just need to find a more appropriate set of calipers. There were a number of pin drive calipers made that will fit, the trick is finding the one with the best hose routing for a rear hung application.

Unfortunatley, I don't know of any pin type calipers that can be mounted toward the rear and used with 10.95" rotors.

I normally switch to 10.95" slider calipers and caliper brackets, or convert to 11.75" rotors and caliper brackets.

????? Ok, I'm asking out of curiosity ...
What difference does the rotor size make when it comes to lines? Why wouldn't the lines you (Dr.Diff) sold me for my 11.75" rear-mount pin-style swap work in this situation ??

I see the delimna your in now. Don't give up on the disc brakes though. They are much safer, and worth the trouble. If you end up switching to slider type calipers, and can't find any on your side of the pond....send me a PM. I've got a set of caliper adapters you can have for free. Not sure if shipping would be out the wazoo,as I've never shipped anything to the UK. Good luck.

Granted, my car is a 66 but I used the smaller rotors (Thought I wanted to run 14" wheels) with a 72 B-body caliper mounted to the rear. I used 79 diplomat hoses (long!) with the mid-bracket removed from the hose and the banjo head profiled a touch. Later on, on my other 66, I used the larger rotors same 72 B-body calipers mounted to the rear and 78 Cordoba hoses. Just my
The 72 B-body calipers are intended for the hose to screw into it but will accept the "banjo" arrangement.

Unfortunately, the head of the banjo bolt scrapes the lower control arm at full lock, when the shorter caliper bracket and late B-body (banjo style) pin calipers are mounted toward the rear.

As mentioned, everything may clear if you can get a banjo hose to work with the '70-'72 B/E body calipers, which were originally intended for a straight, screw-in hose.
