Need some hemi help here. New 472 hemi that i built. Dual quad stage 5 intake, stage 5 heads, manley valves/seals, je pistons/rings, roller everything, blah, blah, blah. Have had this thing apart twice now because it keeps burning oil. I thought it was the intake manifold gaskets at first, so took it apart, resealed everything and re torqued repeatedly. Did a leak down on each cylinder and they all check out fine, so cant be rings. New felpro head gaskets with copper sealer - no leaks externally - dry as a bone. Start up and with in first 5 mins, light mist of blue smoke. Pull valve cover and plugs and every plug is black with soot and can see oil deposit on piston head - every cylinder. Using manley valves with 5/16 stems (1.88 exhaust, 2.25 intake) and seals. The only thing i didnt do when engine apart was remove valves, but did have the heads pressure checked and they are fine. I cant figure out how oil is getting into the combustion chamber. About the only thing left is the valve guides, but they are new when i built the thing (black manley valve guide seals). This thing is acting like there are no seals on at all. And i cant imagine that the intake manifold gasket is leaking that badly on every cylinder....HELP!!!

Did i screw something up putting on the valve guide seals? Could i have put on a wrong size seal that is too big? Any advice would be appreciated...

Leaks at intake, intake bolts , inner studs or spark plug tubes??

I don't think any of those would oil up a motor THAT fast however.

Within 5 minutes everything is oiled up?? Just idling??

yes on thread sealer to the studs going into the intake ports, black umbrella type seals on the valve guides, i re-sealed the intake manifold gaskets using hi tack around the outside and black permatex for the rest and have retorqued it 3 times now. Wondered about the spark plug tubes but the seals are in place and what would you do if it was leaking? Thread sealer on the spark plugs? That would make me a little nervous...

i don't think uou have a leak thru the plugs , you did remove the gasket off the bottom of the plug i assume , thats something i didn't know about .

the intake can be very tricky to have seal from things i have read here , mines not together and running yet so i'm sure i'll be going thru this same stuff

No, i did not know about removing the gasket - you're referring to the washer right? If that is the case, if that is it, ill be relieve and feeling like an idiot all at once. Especially since i built the entire thing... I just cant see how it can be getting past brand new valve guides or intake to such a degree...and its consistent on all 8 cyls...i will try it - thanks...

These seal the tubes up and are supposed to work real well.
