Do both ends have square drives? Or is one end shaped like the end of a distributor to fit the slot in the gear? Pic of both ends would be greatly appreciated.

5/16" hex like the end of the inter shaft. Got an old one-grind the teeth off & use a screwdriver bit

Find a pump drive shaft from a Ford, they're 5/16" hex for the entire length.

STILL waiting to have some steel and aluminum 5/16 hex stock PLASTIC COATED in the middle ...to prevent damage to the intermediate-shaft-bushing during usage. They should be available in a month or so ... the cost should be just slightly more than a plain-jane hex rod.

I use an aluminum rod with a hex pressed into the end. I'm sure that several places make priming rods, probably easier for people to just order one than to make one.

Word!

I turned my shaft so it was round in the area of contact. Don't want to end up with brass shavings in the motor and a damaged bushing.

Buy a 5/16" solid rod and take 2 minutes and grind a hex on one end and your good for life. Cheaper than buying a paint stir or anything else. I made one 20 years ago out of a 5/16" piece of tubing. I've used it to prime about 50 hemis with 60 weight oil in em.

The one with yellow tape is my home made piece. It's hollow tubing, solid will work too.

I actually found one when rebuilding a friends 340-6.

This is what I found after driving it to my place and pulling the intake

I took a picture of it as found, before taking it out.
