probably an A-body and a bunch of $$$$$$$. I mean that's what it comes down to. Buy an old PS car hang a dart shell on it and go.
not trying to argue and i know alot of real fast "street"cars are rebodied old prostocks but are those chasies realy set up for all that torque? i mean they are higly refined and specialised racecars and they dont realy make that stupid amount of torque that a boosted engine makes? just a thought i have had in my mind for a very loong time but never realy asked the Question
I'd thik they would. In any event you'd have abetter starting platform. What are the rules for that anyway? I'd think a S/C'd BIG hemi w/ 2 stage NOS could do it. Only uses boost and NOS when doing the 1/4 mile. Again it's all about how much money you want to spend.

I agree with Bob. Tube chassis, big turbos, Lenco... Basically a dump truck load of money.
There is a reason why he has been as successful as he has after all. Its not cheap to go 6's at over 200.
a KB twin turbo hemi in a chassis car. he's done

First off how many door car Mopars are even running in the 6's at over 200mph? let alone one that can be tuned to drive 1000 miles? Can it be done? Sure it can... BUT it would take a long time to get everything set in motion, and have it all come together just right... By that time the Nova will be even faster, or Drag Week will not even exist.
Cooling would be a issue with just about any serious MOPAR race head. Just not enough choices with good cooling for a street car.

So what would it take to beat this guy on Drag Week with a Hemi powered B or E-body? What chassis would you use, what would the engine build be? What tires? Who would be the best builder for the car and the most capable driver? He runs in the unlimited class, so tube a chassis, any blower or turbo or nitrous is OK, any tire, any trans. Larry runs a lenco trans.
Remember, it has to make the 1000+ mile drive from track to track over the course of a week, as well as go 6's. Could it be done?
The single most important piece needed would be the proper bank account. If you had that, the rest of the questions are easily answered! Tube chassis superbird clone, just because I could, twin turbo intercooled all aluminum EFI Hemi, TH400 on the back of my world block with a GV overdrive, 9" rear, under the hood and nose you'd have plenty of room for trans coolers and radiators with air ducted up from below the nose. It'd be primer black with P-40(forgive me for not knowing my airplanes) sharks teeth on the front OK, now which one of you has the bank account

Find someone that owns a P40 Warhawk or a P51 Mustang, they will have enough cash on hand to see it through. We did a project for A.J. Foyt a long time ago and he took the owner of the company I worked for a ride in his P51. He said it was the ride of a life time.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.
