Yep. MCIR
Rumor has it, they may even be posting some decent payouts this year.

i think the track managment means more to the well being of the track than who's sign they hang out front

I agree with that.
Since I am a bracket racer, I just need a good, safe, track to race at. Big events really help a track pay the bills and make improvements. Insurance comes to mind as a track cost that might be influenced by the sanctioning body.

For us bracket racers, the IHRA also brings the Summit Super Series (SSS) and the track champion money, along with the shot at the SSS World Championship $10k (Congrats Davey Boyd, a.k.a. 65racer)

Well they have a race scheduled in Tulsa in Sept. I hope it happens. The Old AHRA Springnationals there was a fun race with a huge spectator turn out for the track. I'm sure track owner Dan Gutterman is hoping lightening will strike twice at TRP. Jim

Doe's AHRA require a Ambulance & Paramedic's ?? I think this has something to do about it. Have you any idea what their service cost for 1-Day or Weekend ? (not cheap). Last time I went to QC DAN was sitting in a old ambulance @ end of track. YEA thats were I want to race.

I just joined the AHRA forum. Did you see how many members are on their forum already? LOTS!! I browsed the rules section and seems pretty standard but let's see how they handle the Sportsman racers?! Hopefully, loads better that the NHRA crowd...

Jim,
I'll be watching very closely to see if that race takes place with Tulsa now under the NHRA umbrella...my guess is it won't happen...

As for the new AHRA...let's ask this question in five years, and see if it's still viable..

IHRA is circling the drain. ADRL has no real sportsman classes at all. AHRA is a shiny website and not much more so far. I really hope they can make a go of it, but without the Pro racers and the fans that pay the money to see them it's gonna be a tough row to hoe. Sounds like the management may not be the best either.

NHRA has already outlived them once, and that was when the same Pro cars ran both sanctioning bodies.

They can't go head to head with NHRA for a Pro show.....there simply is not enough cars in existence.

I do disagree that drag racing has to focus on spectators to survive. Focusing on spectators at the expense of the rank and file is what got it in the shape it is in now. This sport is a participant driven sport....always has been, always will be.

Did anyone notice this?

For the 2010 American Hot Rod Association Reunion Tour we are looking at a variety of “old” style classes, as well as classes incorporating “new” technology. We are open to any combination that racers in the various regions want and would support. Our goal is to give sportsmen racers a place for their cars to be competitive without having to burden them with any additional expenses. If you have any suggestions, we would welcome your input. We are open to incorporating parts from the various listings

When have you ever heard NHRA asking for racer input?

Lets hope it makes it and becomes a good (SAFE) sanctioning body for the sportsman racers to run under NHRA has little to offer unless you run at divisional or national event level Runner with Orvile Moe out of the way it may actualy have a chance how is SRP these days since spokane took it over have they cleaned up the pits resurfaced the track and actually use VHT on regular race days it could have been a nice place back in the late 80's early 90's when I raced there but like you mention MANAGMENTmakes a big difference

W2: Bucky Austin had the contract to manage Spokane County Raceway. He put a ton of money into the track including a complete resurface, cleaned up the pits and rest rooms,. installed a new timing system and readerboard, and remodled the concession stand. The track surface is the best I have ever raced on.

Unfortunately, Bucky forgot to pay for the improvements so his contract was cancelled and Spokane County is being sued for a million dollars. The County is trying to find a new manager but rent of $275,000 a year will be a tough nut to crack. We racers are hoping the County will cut a good manager a better deal so that we will have a track in 2010 but we are all worried at this point.

I saw their rules on their site and really like to Modified Production. Rule are similar to the old AHRA Rule Book.

Hope they get a North Carolina Track.

Good guess.

Last week Tulsa was dropped off the list of tracks to host an AHRA Reunion Tour event.

Also (announced in the AHRA message boards by an AHRA official, but still awaiting an update on the front page of the website) the opener scheduled for March at San Antonio has been pushed back to May.

That makes the April 30 event in Louisiana the first one on the 2010 AHRA 'tour'.
