Can someone please tell me what the fuel capacity is for a 1970 Barracuda? Thanks.

"not enough" is not an acceptable answer

yup. and don't trust the factory gauge either. when mine hit empty, it always took only 12 gallons to fill up. still, knowing this, I could never bring myself to keep driving once that needle was pointing at "E"!!!

The factory "stated" fuel capacity on all E-bodies from 70-74 is 18 gallons...

The reproduction tanks hold 19 gals. They don't have the 1 gallon expansion tank inside.

Interesting to know. I have a re-pop tank on my Challenger, although I don't plan on running it down to that last "extra" gallon...

The reason I was asking is because I just finished up my car after several years and this fall has been the first time I’ve really driven it. It is a 440 4bbl cuda. I have only been thru one tank of gas. I just couldn’t believe the gas gauge and assumed the sending unit was off since the gauges have all been gone thru. Well, the gas gauge wasn’t too far off. Once it hit empty, it ran out within 20 miles or so. It had maybe 30 minutes of idle time on that tank and only 125 miles! Does that sound right? Less than 7 mpg!! Hopefully once it’s broke in, and maybe some carb adjustments, it will get better? This will sure limit me on how far away from home I will want to take it………

gas evaporates out of the carb when you turn it off hot. So if you made alot of short trips, then 7MPG may be all you get.

The tank may hold 18 or 19 gallons, but my car (with a repop sender/pickup) quits running at about 16.5 gallons. DAMHIK

While outside on the turnpike They got this new hit tune Where thrills become as cheap as gas And gas as cheap as thrills

Wow, you're doing pretty good at that. My old '70 440-6 'cuda (with super-track pack) used to go maybe 100 miles on a tank of gas, which worked out to about 4-5MPG on the street and maybe 6MPG on the highway.

But with 355 gears & a 4bbl.... shouldn't I be able to do a bit better than 7mpg? The car doesn't get driven much so it's not so much the cost of filling up but the lack of range I will get with the car.

I just filled the car up from empty (engine quite). It took 17.2 gallons. That's up to the filler neck.

Another alternative is a 2 bbl and/or lighter shoes! Seriously though, short trips use up more gas that one long one too. Just a thought

(Edit: Srry Greetween. Missed your comment about short trips...)
