Who uses them? Who has used them and dont like them? What are the Pro's and Con's? How hard are they to install? How long do they last? Thinking about stepping up to one of these for my hemi..
Are they noisy?

I had 3 of them. All Milodon type with the single idler. One in a Turbo Buick Stage 2 V6, 340 Mopar and 572 Hemi. All three were set with proper clearance. The Buick and the 340 were very quiet. For some reason the one on my Hemi is noisy. I think it may have something to do with the idler bolted to the aluminum cover. I actually had it in two different blocks so I know its not a clearance issue. Besides the noise, I like the precise timing that the gear drives offer. My Buick has over 3500 street miles with a solid roller and moderate spring pressures and getting ready to tear it down for inspection but don't expect to find any wear or problems with the gear drive. Based on my experience, I would recomend it to anyone. As stated in the previous post, initial set-up is a little tricky but once it is set, it will stay there.

I really like mine got two one in the box form my next 542 and one that came with this JWD 452. First yo put them on with no lower dowel pins and get gear clearance right drill to 5/16 and install 5'16 dowels and that is done. Trick is there are no timing marks! so you get your degree wheel on at TDC! one of these is the cats butt for this!! http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/crtusowidewh.html you turn the cam to .050 lift and turn the crank to the @.050 number you desire and then line the top gear up so 7 bolts line up perfectly and tighten gear then do your regular degree checks to make sure where you are!! the mark things and any advancing and retarding of cam from where you are is done buy lining numbers up to the original 1 mark!! So if you have a 260 @ .050 cam and you want it at 106 you devide 260 by 2 = 130 then you subtract 106 this leave 24 so you want @.050 lift at 24 BTDC (before)

My brother has one in a 455 olds and another going in a 350. You can't hear the gear drive on the 455 because of the 3.5" exhaust. They do take a little time to install them. On a related note has anyone ever ran a belt and and a gear drive back to back? My machinist had a single idler gear drive on an injected 355 sbc and tried a jessel belt drive for the heck of it. The belt drive slowed the cars 60' time and as soon as he put the gear drive back in it returned to normal. He came to the conclusion that the belt was stretching a little when the car was taking off and in turn it was throwing the timing off enough to kill a little power. This particular engine is in a flyweight opel gt and revs to 8-9k very easily.

Keep'em coming guys.. What mods if any are required to the after market MP blocks, I actually have a World. 4.5 bore version. I tried to read the installation instruction on the web site. It would have probably understood it better If I had the parts in front of me, or any experience with these.

I have installed and used all three of the Milidon, Kieth Blacks and Donovan single idler gear drives for the B-RB & Hemi motors and maybe one of them on a SB Mopar(can't really remember or not on the SB. They are reliable and accurate, some of the early production blocks needed grinding inside the block to clear the idler, some didn't

I recently put one on my World block, 4.5 bore. Easy installation but a few things we discovered. You will need longer bolts for the electric water pump as the Milodon spaces the water pump out to clear the cover. You will need a new dampner or a spacer behind the existing dampner along with longer bolts for mounting the dampner. Outside of these, I really like the Milodon and it is not very noisy at all.
Good luck

WHAT? I have had two of them in three different big blocks, and switched to belt drive because of the noice. In the engine dyno through mufflers the operator asked several times if the engine is really ok, are you sure that it won't blow up? Other than that it's a good unit, very reliable and accurate, easy to set on after you figure it out etc. However, nothing wrong with a good chain either, and a bunch less $.

Have one on a KB block, no mods needed though you have to get the correct damper. Stable timing but noisey. With the mufflers on it sounds like I'm running a procharger. Personally I don't like the noise but I can live with it.

You can get the sound of the Stereos with only a CD cost. I have borken two P&J's, I would never use a floatinig dual idler again. nayway, with the Milodon I actually stated to have torubles in the yearly inspection, not beacause of the exhaust noice, but engines mechanical noice. That's the only reason I switched to Jesel.

I've been running a KB gear set for about 12 years now on my 2 race engines(small blocks)... no noise and timing is dead steady... just have to set the back lash on the idler to the specs and drill and tap 1 hole... They are pretty nice... loosen a few screws and you can change the cam timing(degree marks on the cam gear) I also have a KB for a BB as well as a aussie belt drive which is new... I'm in the process of selling off my BB stuff

I'll be replacing it with a belt drive this winter, I just don't dig the noise As a paradox, the gear drive will then be going on my street 528 motor

I bought this one years ago for $50 at a swapmeet. As yet I've been unable to determine who made it. It didn't look like it had ever been used. It goes on the stock pins and then you adjust gear clearance. The idler is on the right side as opposed to most others being on the left (should that matter?). It has timing marks on the gears but they're kind of useless because the idler is not the same size as the bottom gear so as soon as the motor is turned over once, the marks won't line up again for God knows how many more turns! What I need to know is how much clearance the gears need and how you get that (I've heard you run a piece of paper though each gear and that's the clearance - about .006")
It may work if you get number one up top dead center and put a paper in the gears the marks is to let you advance or retart the timing that`s the way it should work good luck.

917475E is the ATi part # listed for non oem covers. It's for "Donavan & KB Gear drive or Indy timing cover". Sorry to be a pedant, just dont want people making the same mistake I did.

We use a gear drive as well, I switched back from a Jessel belt. gear drive is the most accurate.
