Jim, to me its just a matter of how long it will be, some guys have 6" of junk out on the front pulling in al sorts of directions and in that case I would go with the larger diameter. I have just 2 things on my mandrel, alt pulley then on the outer is my dry sump pump (I have the oil belt on the outer so I can pull it easy to prime the system)
