Are the white plastic spark plug wire seperators supposed to be engine color or left natural? In the pics posted they all appear natural, that or the paint has flaked off over the years.
My former chall 340 they were missing so I guessed when I did it and painted them. I know big blocks were in fact engine color . and I know later years small blocks are engine color

As far as I know the 71 bracket is the same as 1970 ( Same pt # in the parts book ) . I don't have a newer parts book here at the house to say for sure about 72 and newer. But I've seen some newer 360's with what appears to be the exact same bracket on it

Bill every untouched original wire loom I've seen (the white nylon portion) were bare with no paint, it seems reasonable to assume that they were added just prior to installing the distributor and plug wires. Speaking on painted parts, I have yet to see an original dip stick painted engine color, so far all have been black and the tube engine color. The rubber valve cover grommets, PCV valve, and oil fill cap have all been engine color. I'm speaking on 71 engines painted orange, there may have been variations with different era small blocks.

I'm guessint the one in my pic is for a 2 bbl manifold, the pic from Bills site looks like the 340 one ( taller and over to the V/C side to line up better with the T-quad linkage), and a 72 one that i have is set up for what i think was a different kickdown setup without the threaded end. i'll post a pic of the 72 in a bit. One thing is for sure, no one is 100% on 340's Maybe i can get a hold of Rhinodart to see if Bill's car is in chicagoland area, and spend an hour taking pic's and verifying bolt , kickdown, brackets, ect...

A truer statement would be that no one is 100% sure on any Mopar engine detail, some better than others but there are debatable items on almost all of them. 340 details are known quite well by a few, but it's a small number at this time. There are still some minor details that get debated, just as on other Mopar engines.

And every year 340 is a little different too. And you have the 340 six packs that are an animal in thier own. Because of TA/AAR values those engines are more researched out.

And didn't the the 340 TQ's in 71 have a recall or some issue? And most were swapped to a 72 TQ. Making a survivor with the OE carb even harder to find. When someone back in the day does a carb swap stuff gets disturbed at the same time. That's got to make it tough to find 71 info.

Is they why the orange Demon has it's carb switched?

Not a recall, but if serviced for carb issues there was some service bullitin that reccomend a 72 TQ as a replacment.

The Demon had some kind of problem back in the day, small carb fire or something, as a result it is also wearing some touch up engine paint on the intake and drivers VC

my demon still retains its original 71 carb but its far from a reference example. i have the majority of the correct ($$$) parts now just a few more peices and i will be ready to start the resto.

Looks nice to me Just having the original carb and what looks to be the original master cyl puts you way ahead of the game !!

Scott,
the 340 I'm building now for a customer came out of a 1970 duster 340 back in the early to mid-eighties. and the tube and dipstick are both engine color.(orange) I have no reason to think either have ever been touched

Here are the two different 71 340 intake castings shown side by side to show the differences.

Would dmoore's survivor 72 340 4speed Duster have the correct bracket? This one looks like the same one for 68-70? 340's that you can buy new....

Ya, that looks like the 68-71 style, the pic of the 72 that i listed is going by an old Year One cataloge that they say is 72 and later 340/360 4bbl, Maybe that style showed up later in the 72 year? the pic of that 72 does look to have the original PCV Valve,

Also notice that the 72 has had some new engine paint added, be careful what paint details you copy from it
