Best thing to do to start is go with a relay set up so you will at least get battery voltage at the headlight.
80% of the headlights sold now are at least halogen over the counter. If you want to step up from that you can go to a Hella headlamp setup.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

If you want "stock looking" what's wrong with halogen sealed beams?

Hologen sealed beams are not as bright as the newer hologen lights.
I think a lot of the difference is in your minds
It depends on the wattage of whatever "hologen lights" you are talking about, but the REALLY big thing is that these old girls never had decent SIZED wiring to begin with. Putting lamp relays out under the hood with larger wire feeds helps immensely

Sealed beam headlamps and headlamp housings which take a replaceable bulb (such as an H4) are totally different. Do you want more light, more brightness, or a better light pattern? I suggest you check out the info at www.rallylights.com regarding light patterns and the differences in U.S. and European code conversion headlamps.

I checked out that link. Didn't find any info on light patterns. I'm looking for a brighter, whiter light. And yes i know there different.

Orignal question was who makes a good conversion headlamp.
Hella makes an excellent conversion headlamp. I've used Hella E-code conversion lamps on three of my vehicles which previously used sealed beam halogen bulbs and highly recommend them to everyone.
