I have the usual main stud clearance problem on the main stud by the oil pump. The first person I talked to at ARP said to use bolts in those holes then I was put on hold and another guy told me I could not use bolts since it was align bored. He said to cut down the stud, remove the washer and trim the pump as needed but to be careful not to take too much off the pump. I wish there was a better cure for this but this looks like the only solution. ARP should warn buyers about this problem.

Hey guy's, I just wanted to add a little more info. Last night I trimmed the stud and clearenced the pump about .020 and that was still not enough so I had to trim about two threads off the 12 point stud nut to finally get enough clearence. Also if you use an oil pump gasket it will give a little more clearence as well. Just for the heck of it I cut my old oil pump down to see how much room there was to grind and there really is not that much so I would not take off more than .020".

when I ran into the metioned issue, I sat down for a beer and thought about it throughoutly and decided to go the stud without washer way... maybe my engineering degree was eventually worth something

12pt nut kit and I trim the stud. no sweat..

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I had same problem .. called ARP and was told to use a bolt in place of stud .. had to pay for the bolts .. I insisted several times that they take another look at there kit so others will not have same problem ... I think it fell on deaf ears !

Trimming the stud didn't give enough clearance in my case and Tim (70Dart360) and I were worried about how much he could safely grind the pump,so after much debate and advice,I went with the advice I got from Ryan J (of Shady Dell Speed Shop)and Steve Bagwell's old crewchief at the shop where I had the machine work done(Dixie Performance Machine-formerly Barnett's engine shop) and used an ARP bolt in that one hole with no washer.Dixie actually did the align hone with all the studs in,I would think if it was a problem they would have told me to bring it back in for another hone,or at least advised me not to run it that way, considering thier shop's good reputation.

Moper, you even said to run a bolt in my case.

The guy I talked to at ARP had not a clue about the oil pump issue with Chrysler smallblocks.

Tim still had to grind the pump a little
