Being a PPG painter for 30 years I have found at times paint company's like to stop paint lines. Well for the longest time this black was only able spray it in Concept DCC single stage. Well they are no longer making Concept and my jobber is out of 2 toners for the color. I did call tech line and got a formula for a leaded formula as well as a Delfleet formula. Both of those formulas look like they will be very high in metallics and I don't feel the color would look right. So does anyone have any other paint lines they have messed with. This car I have to do I am getting close to just doing the parts in a semi gloss black as it is a 71 cuda that is not a restoration just getting a few areas colored in the black that should have been done when it was painted in the 90's.
Thanks
corey

Have your jobber mix without the metallic ? Spray a flat/flattened clear over the semi-gloss ? There are a couple of other sources for a more accurate textured flat black. (PS - love my yellow car - thanks again on that )

Have you checked with TCP Global? They mix many factory colors for antique and classic cars. I purchase their textured suede acrylic lacquer for my dash restorations. Link to their restoration shop product lines: LinkLink to the 1970 Dodge color chart for reference: Link 2You can find all makes and models in the Auto Color Library: Good luck!

I did an imitation A12 hood, I used SEM hot rod black, and on the last couple coats I played with very low low air pressure and cross coating to achieve the texture.
I posted a thread about it in the projects area awhile back. I'm happy with it, it duplicates the look of the nicest show cars I've seen. And I believe the originals had quite a bit of variation to them as well.
Without the air pressure and texture games and just applied as you would any single stage, I thought it was a dead ringer for the tail panel finish on my 68 charger. I covered that and posted at least one picture before adding texture in the same thread.
National Tool Warehouse had the best price.
Or there is always the Gibson/Badalson route $$$$$.

The local Painter Supply custom mixed up organisol for me in their paint line brand. Came out perfect for my lift off hood. Texture seemed spot on to me.

On my dads 72 cuda I did the low pressure trick to get the texture look. My thought is I might just go with hot rod black and do the same trick. Thanks everyone

Low pressure & fog final coat(s) from a distance has always worked for me. True test for accuracy, as accomplished by a neighbor around 1970, though I DON'T recommend it: Get a little paste wax on it, and if you can't get rid f the wax no matter what, you nailed it

https://8774paint1.com/collections/specialty-paints-textured-argents-organisolI used it on someone's else's car. Matched my of original formula cans great. I think they stock piled old stuff. If it is not the old stuff. If not they figured out to match it's look, texture and metallic look right with what's currently available now. I still have a quart of old PPG in my cabinet. Looks the same. It's the best available if you want it right When i shoot it, i do so over PPG DP90lf (black) used as reduced as sealer.
